In Chinese Herbalism, Jing is the primal energy of life. We are given a certain amount of Jing by our parents at birth, the prenatal Jing. We deplete our Jing through our living. When we run low on Jing we show the signs of aging, and when we run out of Jing we die. Most plant-based Jing herbs can only replenish postnatal Jing. The unique biological compounds in placenta are responsible for the initiation and nurturing of new lives. Placenta is traditionally thought to be the most potent substance that can replenish prenatal Jing. Deer placenta closely resembles human placenta chemically and is traditionally used for rejuvenating the body. It is as close as one can get to re-birth. Deer is considered to be a "higher order" animal in Chinese Herbalism.
